Reforms Needed in US Government
This is a quick list of reforms needed in US Government, probably after Trump is gone.
- Limits on Presidential decrees. This power needs to be crushed unless we are at war.
- Limits on some of the Senate rules that let one senator completely hold up legislation. Put it up for a vote be it in committee or on the Senate floor.
- We could get rid of both the Republican and Democratic parties.
- Undo the many rules that reinforce the two party system.
- I'd like to have a big national formal debate about getting rid of the Electoral College. We need to have academics tell us the consequences of this first.
- Again, I'd like to hear a big national formal debate about repealing the Seventeenth Amendment. This was the Amendment that changed the election of Senators to direct election whereas before the State governments chose who would be their Senators. I think the Federal Government has become too powerful and some power needs to be taken back by the States. It's a check on Federal power. I want to hear a debate and discussion first.
That will do for a start. A lot depends on if there is anything left to rebuild post Trump.
