The Time to Speak Out is Now
I just ran across my bookmark for Devilgate's post Maybe You Can Post Your Way Through Fascism and it got me thinking.
When big events are happening things move very quickly and we often have only one opportunity to speak out - and then that moment passes and we are swept along by the tide of events.
I remember reading that when the Nazis first came to power in Germany in the early 1930's they were not at first secure in their power. Records captured after the War showed the Nazi Party was terrified that German Jewish World War I veterans would all put on their war medals and march in opposition to the Nazis. The Party bosses thought the public might rally to the Jewish war veterans in sympathy. But the vets never marched. Time swept by and soon the opportunity for any such marches in the streets were lost. The opportunity was lost.
Forever.
Thugs like Trump pretend to put up a brave front, but in reality they fear the public and public opinion. Look how many times Trump has backed down when the public really pushed back.
Whatever Trump and Musk get away with now will only get worse. They are just testing the waters looking for easy pickings.
Now is the time to speak out. Now is the time to let your Senators, Congressperson, Governor and state reps know that certain actions and certain behaviors will not be tolerated. Do this now while other voices are with you so that your opposition looks more like a mass wall.
